Rokkaholik Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 This is what I've spec'd out for both, although the memory selection keeps going from IN STOCK to OUT OF STOCK within minutes sometimes... And Oddly enough, the i7 Skylake says Out Of Stock on the Newegg website at $349, but the Newegg EBAY seller has it at $419, and now they are gone too. I refuse to buy a Skylake off ebay from some lowlife scalper I'll be using my current Coolermaster CM690 II Advanced case, Corsair HX650w Power Supply, Hard Drives, and My wife just bought me a XFX R9 390 8gb video card. bp9801 Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Why the 6700 and not the 6700K? Also, do you happen to have a Micro Center anywhere near you? Could be the better option to shave some money off the CPU price, for either one. Personally, I would go for the 1151 build, but with a better cooler. ccokeman Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Both will be solid. IPC is a bit better on Skylake. DDR4 latency is worse but bandwidth goes up. For a $50 difference I would go Skylake.

I see some coolers are compatible across a few sockets. I have a Megahelam with 2 Scythe push pull fans currently and I was hoping it would cross over to the 1151 or 1150 socket. If not, I'm still on a budget and it "was" going to be $500 for just a mobo, CPU and memory....lol Who am I kidding?!? We all know THOSE go out the window fast. I'm not as serious about gaming as I used to be so I don't need all the extras. At the same time, I try not to skimp on parts either which Is why I'm more of a bang for the buck guy. ccokeman Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 After seeing the reports about heat sink pressure on the Skylake die look at what kind of pressure the Megahalems will put on the chip. If I remember right that one was a beast for pressure on the chip.
Rokkaholik Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) As for my Megahelam, I didn't tighten it down to the max. I remember it seeming like it was getting tight with a lot of threads to go so I made sure they were about even pressure all the way around and left it where it seemed good. I think my previous heatsink did the same thing where it seemed too tight Edited December 7, 2015 by Rokkaholik
bp9801 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Just curious, but any updates on what you went with?
NCC10281982B Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I have been told that the 1150 is at the end of its life.
El_Capitan Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I guess for that price difference, I'd go with Skylake.
