htaed Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 (edited) Im looking for a headset max $300. just a few ive been deciding between http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826106695 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2WZ1ME3012&cm_re=363d-_-26-106-639-_-Product i have a decent build in audio card will the G4me be able to produce the same virtual 7.1 as the 363d with the right software? i feel that usb dongle is unnecessary. i do eventually plan on buying a sound card but going for a head set first. Also head phone and a separate mic are not an option as of now. I am a fan of sennheiser but if any one knows any better ideas for a headset let me know thanks. slick2500 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 You can use Razor Surround to simulate 7.1 on pretty much any headset, I played around with it on Battlefield 3 for a while and it made the game sound amazing on my Turtle Beach Earforce x12 headset. So if you don't really need the 7.1 surround sound and the usb dongle then I would probably go with the G4ME ONE headset.
htaed Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 thanks, the 7.1 would be a really cool feature. just trying to see if i can get the same feel with just say razor surround on the ONE then the usb dongle they give you with the 363D. and save my self $50. i imagine its almost the same headset they are just selling u the dongle for the extra. Waco Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 "Virtual 7.1" is just a fancy way of saying "stereo". Games do their own mixing these days and you only have 2 drivers in any of these virtual headsets anyway... I'd say try a "7.1" pair versus a stereo pair back to back and see if you can hear positioning better on one or the other in a modern game. El_Capitan Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Like most people have already stated, almost all stereo headsets can be driven to 7.1 Surround via virtual software, and most people prefer 7.1 Virtual Surround compared to True 7.1 Surround. True 7.1 Surround has to pack more drivers per earpiece, and it's tough to get enough amps to drive each of those, so you'll get quieter sound than a typical stereo headset. If you want the best setup for the price, get: 1. MDRV6 Studio Monitor Headphones with CCAW Voice Coil - You can find these as low as $58.43 shipped like I did. One of the best stereo headsets ever made. Professionals and audiophiles still buy these headsets to this day, and they perform just as good as some stereo headsets prices at $500+. 2. Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD with updated LME49720NA Op-Amps or an ASUS Xonar Essence STX upgraded with LM6172IN and two LME49720NA Op-Amps. You can find the sound cards used from $60 to $100. You can also order the Op-Amps separately for an extra $20 or so. This will make games and music just stand out from before. It's like night and day compared to your onboard soundcard. 3. Blue Yeti USB Microphone - Can be found on sale twice a year for as low as $75 or less. One of the best microphone's you'll find. If I have my AC blasting and am also using my speakers, people on the other end won't hear them enough to be bothered, and my voice comes through crystal clear. wevsspot Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I'm with Cappy on most points, but still going to offer some alternatives (you've got a decent budget so let's use it wisely and try to buy all new gear ) Ditch the onboard sound. You want a sound card with a headphone AMP. Sound Card Creative Sound Blaster Z This model is on sale right now for the same price as the vanilla version - get it now! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102048&cm_re=creative_sound_blaster_z-_-29-102-048-_-Product $82.99 or Sound Card Asus Zonar DGX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132052 $37.99 (also on sale) If you can find the Sony MDRV6 Headphones for $58 - $60 grab them up quick. Otherwise you might consider these alternatives; Creative Aurvana Live! http://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1407771131&sr=1-1&keywords=creative+aurvana+live! $69.71 Audio-Technica ATH-M50 http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B000ULAP4U/ref=sr_1_6?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1407771208&sr=1-6&keywords=headphones $119.95 Sennheiser HD-280 Pro http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-280-Pro-Headphones/dp/B000065BPB/ref=sr_1_32?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1407771347&sr=1-32&keywords=headphones $79.99 Back to sound cards........... The Creative SB X-Fi Titanium HD is an outstanding card if you can find one used for a good price from a reputable seller. I've got one that I keep for a backup (and in fact was the card I was using before grabbing the SBZ). Sorry though..... mine won't ever be for sale I'm a hoarder. htaed Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 i understand there is no real 7.1 in a headset was just curious if you think the G4me one would put out just as good virtual surround as the 363d. i all ready have a decent set of sennheiser's and a blue snowball is what im using currently. looking for an easier all in 1 package to bring with to lans and what not. i will probably grab a sound card next paycheck if whatever i get doesn't sound decent with my on board. i do have creative 3di recon on board with a few different op-amp for it as well.(have the sniper g1 m5) just curious what you guys think is the best all in one head set sorry i understand the advantages of headphones and a separate mic but just not something i wanna deal with. if you couldn't tell it will be use primarily for gaming. thanks for all the suggestions so far. El_Capitan Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Well, if that's the case, I only have experience with two headsets: Plantronics GameCom 780 Surround Sound Stereo PC Gaming Headset $55.99 Turtle Beach-Ear Force XP400 Wireless Dolby Surround Sound Gaming Headset $99.99 The GameCom 780 is a very good headset for the price. The highs are a little bit high, and lows a bit deep, but otherwise they're good for music with Dolby not enabled. For games and the 7.1 experience, the headset is very good. However, the microphone is just okay. It does have a noise cancellation for the mic, but the Turtle Beach XP400 has a much better mic, even though it doesn't have noise cancellation. The Turtle Beach XP400 is also pretty good. The sound is a bit deeper all around as it has bigger drivers for bass. For surround gaming, I prefer it over the GameCom 780, but not for music. The microphone is definitely better, but there's the likelihood that more than your voice will pass through the mic. There's the trade-offs for those two. I'm not sure how the other headsets fare. wevsspot Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Nothing inherently wrong with the two models you've chosen then, although if I were spending my money it would probably be on the G4ME. You mentioned LANs though and since both of your original choices are open back you are going to get background noise, and of course everyone around you will be able to hear what you hear at medium to high volume levels. The open backs do tend to give a larger sound stage (especially good for gaming) but they are generally pretty poor at noise isolation.
