Erosannin Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 As stated, this post is about my Powercolor HD7950. The problem is simple, I mine Litecoin with my other HD7950 and it goes up to 65 degrees and never exceeds that (it's an XFX) My Powercolor though is reaching all the way to 101 degrees with the same tasks. I tried to raise the fan speed on the card and it doesn't change a thing. Is my card broken and need an RMA?
ccokeman Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I am guessing you are running both in the same system. Is it a reference card or custom cooled card? Is it the top or bottom card? Did you make sure you were adjusting the fan speed on that card?
Erosannin Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Bottom card and it has a custom cooler from Powercolor which should be even better that my XFX. I made sure I was adjusting the right fan speed more than once and yes they are both in the same system in Crossfire. My motherboard is a Gigabyte Z77X-UP7 and my CPU is an i7-3770K. wevsspot Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Hey Ero, you have a couple options if the custom fan profile isn't working. Option 1 - RMA card Option 2 - remove the factory heatsink, clean up the piss poor factory TIM and replace with some higher quality thermal compound. Re-assemble, properly torque heatsink screws and hope that does the trick.
IVIYTH0S Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Feel the air coming off the card, if it's not hot, maybe it has a faulty sensor. What's it idle at?
Erosannin Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 it idles at 22 degrees as the air in that room must be at 13-14 max

Erosannin Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 The XFX never goes above 65 degrees with fan at 60%
