Ezio21 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Hello, I have faulty GTX 460M card in my laptop. It shutdowns whole computer when entering performance 3D Mode (0,9125V) so i need to lower the voltage. I've managed to dump the GPU bios and edit it with NiBiTor but there are only few voltage settings available. Screen below: I want to set the Performance 3D mode voltage to something about 0,86V so the card will be fast enough to play some games but won't shutdown whole PC. How can i set a custom voltage there? Regards
IVIYTH0S Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Wouldn't you want to ADD volts since it's likely being voltage starved??
Waco Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Have you reapplied thermal paste/pads as a first step?
Ezio21 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) @IVIYTH0S Im afraid that it would damage GPU, wouldn't it? I can set 0,96V but im scared that I could damage 400$ worth GPU. @Waco I've done everything just after buying, it's not overheating, gpu is faulty. Im not a newbie in computers Edited November 25, 2013 by Ezio21
IVIYTH0S Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I would try downclocking it instead then and see if that does it, if you're worried about raising the voltage.
Ezio21 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Downclocking makes GPU enter the 2D mode and stops the shutdowns but as soon as I increase clock to 3D mode then it powers off because GPU gets 0,9125V so i need to make something with 3D mode voltage but performance in 2D mode is very, very low. IVIYTH0S Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Can't you lower the 3D clocks??
wevsspot Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 As pointed out before, lowering the 3D voltage will likely result in even more problems. You have two choices, lower 3D target clock or increase gpu voltage. Don't forget to check gpu temperature to see if that is impacting your situation. Ezio21 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Hello, I've lowered 3D clocks from 675/625 to 550/509 and no shutdown. Do you think that increasing the voltage to 0,96V could help to set normal clocks? Regards
IVIYTH0S Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 If you could safely, it's worth a shot. Unless you're still getting adequate performance with the lower clocks.
Ezio21 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 What do you mind when saying "safely", I will change 3D mode voltage in NiBiTor to 0,96V, is this safe? Regards
IVIYTH0S Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Oh, so you're doing it with software and not bios flashing??
