feetfats Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Hi everyone. I haven't been watching hardware for a long time. I am looking for a solid upgrade from my two xfx 4870's 1gb. As always $money$ is a concern but I want something that will keep me going for a few years. My main reason for upgrading is BF4. I don't think I want to run dual cards again. So what would you recommend? Would it be possible to run BF4 maxed out with 50 - 60fps with a card around $300 or should I up the budget? I would probably prefer nvidia this time but am open. Thanks Edited November 6, 2013 by feetfats
ccokeman Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 What resolution are you running?
IVIYTH0S Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) What resolution are you running? +1 Nearly anything from probably $125+ will equal or exceed your current performance though. With your current budget, this would be best: Powercolor 7970 (925mhz clock) $290-$30MIR and 3 free games Edited November 6, 2013 by IVIYTH0S
Waco Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 R9 290 if you can stretch...if not a 770 would be a phenomenal upgrade for just over $300.

ccokeman Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 With GTX 780's going for as low as $499 and custom cards at $519 you get almost Titan perf at half the price. The 290X is a beast if you set it up right and can keep it cool.
Waco Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 The 290 is $399 and very close to the 290X if you keep it cool.

Braegnok Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Nice card for the $300.00 price range ,.. would be the R9 280X @ $299.99,.. with new drivers coming out the 280X will do OK in BF4,.. on beta it's getting mid 80's FPS in BF3 at 1920X1080. The XFX Double D R9 280X has a voltage that can not be adjusted, it is locked @ 1.2V,.. Both the MSI & ASUS cards have voltages that can be adjusted higher,.. the Matrix card will easily overclock close to the R9 290. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=Property&Subcategory=48&N=100007709&IsNodeId=1&IsPowerSearch=1&SrchInDesc=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=&OEMMark=N&PropertyCodeValue=679%3A446073&Tpk=r9%20280x http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/sapphire_r9_280x_toxic/ Edited November 6, 2013 by Braegnok
ccokeman Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 The R9 280X does very well indeed for 2 year old silicon with some tweaks.
