justlog Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Hey there, I want to preform on my PC an CPU overclock(E8400 which is very overclockable) and what holds me back is the fact that my brother and I bought this PC toghter and he doesn't want to overclock it since he thinks that it is dangerous. It's going to be hard to play modern games on it soon if not already. You can also overclock without changing the voltage and stuff which won't yeild a oc as high with it but you are really not damaging the CPU. Even more so with proper cooling. Assuming you keep temperatures (of everything) in check, sure. However, you can easily blow up a lackluster board by pushing a CPU too far even without changing the voltage at all as well. Very true, a crappy motherboard can blow easily even with minor overclocks, but then again it is almost as likely to blow without, thus the reason it is crappy On the coolers, I have yet to see a system that could not do a no volt mod overclock on stock cooling. Now in fairness it pushes the edge but I have never had one go to throttling. However, again mileage may very and I would never suggest ANY overclocking without a good cooler in place. Also if it is a prebuilt it's very possible the mb is low end and has no oc'ing options available, try and find the model# of the mb and give us the rest of your specs like ram and psu and cpu cooler.
