MJCRO Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 (edited) Screw a new laptop, I'm going for the uber build to treat myself for having no system the last 2 months. Z77 or X79? I'm at a crossroads ATM, is it worth it to go for X79 build or just go for a Z77 + 3770K (I'm leaning towards this b/c of the super low power usage like I used to have on my 2600K) Anyone have any insight on X79, is it worth it? Civ V for instance seems to like SB-E better (maybe just the 6 core procs), but you are right, it is slightly faster for most games. IB-E is also one of the reasons I want to go X79 now though. I may be able a pop in an 8-core IB-E chip down the road... Now I'm wondering if I should go for an i7-3820 now and save for a 8-core IB-E chip later instead of getting a 3930k.... You could get a 2500K and you'd never see the difference in actual games between it (overclocked of course) and any of the newer 6/8 core chips that'll be coming out in the coming year. I'm gonna give IB a shot, besides I'm planning to do a sick little mATX ROG Z77, Fractal Mini, WC build with all the matching sleeving and tubing.
