Overclocking i5 750, P7P55-m, Help!

Hey I recently bought new cooler for my i5 750 and started overclocking. My motherboard is P7P55-m which I think is not so good for this job.

 

Memory:

Description: 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM (Kit of 2) XMP HyperX Blu (Red)

Detailed Specifications: Standard 512M X 64 Non-ECC 1600MHz 240-pin Unbuffered DIMM (DDR3, 1.65V, CL9, FBGA, Gold)

 

This is my first overclock so I'm a bit worried if I have good settings. Anyway here they are:

 

Firstly here are the bios settings I have changed:

These are the only settings I have touched so far and i'm not sure if the PLL and over voltage are okay and I'm not sure if there is something else I should change. The problem with this motherboard seems to be that I can't set core voltage manually.

 

Here's the temperatures under 100% load, about 9 minutes with IntelBurnTest. Think I have applied the paste horribly, I don't have AS5 yet so I will do it again maybe next week.

I ran prime95 earlier for 2 hours with settings: over voltage: 0.2 and PLL: auto (1.8).

After that I closed it and set my computer to sleep mode, when I booted up I had bluescreen. I wasn't fast enough to see the message as I was doing other things. I'm not sure if it was just some win7 sleep mode bug/error or if it was about my overclock. Anyway I'm running prime95 again for maybe.. 4hours?

 

What I'm asking is just about those bios settings I have now, should I lower or increase something for better stability? The core voltage seems to a bit high when I have compared to someone else's overclocks. Thanks

Your overclock doesn't seem stable. :(

 

Here is what I would do:

 

1. Switch to an odd multiplier. It's been forever since my 750 was alive and kicking, so I don't remember whether or not it could do a 21 multi. If it can, great, of not use 19.

 

2. If the odd multiplier doesn't help with stability, its still ok for you to increase the core voltage a bit more. This can sometimes be offset by VTT or PLL, but for what you trying to do I wouldn't worry about either of these settings for now.

 

 

Also, what cooler are you using?

I have been running Prime95 now for 1,5 hours and max temperature has been 66c. I'm using HR-02 Macho cooler. So should I try 19x190 then if I'm going for 3,6GHz? Do I need to touch other settings if I change multiplier?

Been running Prime95 for 4 hours now without any problems. Should I keep running it for few more hours or is my computer stable? I'm still using the settings you can see in my first post.

for a final overclock you might want to go for like 12 hours or even 24 if you really want to. This is the way to find out if your overclock is 100% stable.

Been running for 12 hours now so I think its safe to say its stable. Might try pushing to 3.8GHz when I got better thermal paste.

 

Good. Now run some games & benchmarks to see the ultimate result.

PCMark/3DMark usually bring instabilities out pretty quick.

 

But anything really. Running some games would do the same thing.

 

The stress test only checked to see if the CPU is stable under certain conditions. But if you can pass that, plied run through some benchmarks and games, you can concider it nice and stable. :)
