ZombifiedTurkey Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Hi guys, New to the forum, so hello all I'm hoping someone can clear something up for me. I am looking to get my PC water cooled in the next week and need some advice on my kit. My PC is running a i7 930 at the moment and I'll be picking up a HD7970 next week, I figure there isn't much point in just cooling the CPU so I'll be including my GFX card in the loop also. Here is what I'm looking to purchase, its a kit with everything I need bar the GPU waterblock. Rasa 750 RX360 WaterCooling Kit •Rasa Black Acetal CPU Waterblock •Socket AM2 and AM3 mounting kit •X2O 750 12V Pump/Reservoir •5mm Blue LED with 4Pin Molex •RX360 Radiator •80mm to 120mm Radiator brackets •3 x Low Noise 1700rpm 120mm Fans •3 x 120mm Fan Grills •2m of clear 7/16" tubing •6 x 1/2" barbs •1 x Thermal Paste For the GPU I'll be going EK Full Cover VGA Block EK-FC7970 Acetal+EN Nickel Ok so my problem is at the moment I am using a HAF 922 Tower to house my parts, of course this kit will not fit in this case because of the size of the radiator. So what I'll have to do is upgrade the case to a HAF X, which is where my problem is. Thats another $200 (AUS) and I would really rather put that towards a SSD. Does anyone know if a kit with the RX240 radiator would be sufficient to run the loop I'm wanting to build, I'm not really planning on going crossfire anytime in the near future so thats not a concern. Sorry if that was dragged out Thanks in advance.
bigball1 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) If you go with the HAF X case with a 360 rad you will lose the top drive bay as the rad takes up the spot where a cd drive will fit. You will have to go down 2 spots so the fan will fit on the rad as well. El_Capitan Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 RX240 radiator will be fine.
Il_napoletano Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) what about a 240mm and a 120mm rad? but only really if you are going to be doing some extreme OC'ing, if not a 240mm would work... (as that's what I have on the rig in the sig) edit: Welcome to OCC Edited March 8, 2012 by Il_napoletano

I'm definetly wanting to overclock, I want to squeeze 4.0GHz out of the 930 and want to see what I can get out of the 7970, 240mm still going to be alright with the extra heat? Il_napoletano Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 it should be...but for ultimate coolness and component longevity ..probably a 240mm and a 120mm but I'm running my e8400 @ 4.1Ghz with my OC'ed GPU and I get 70C max on GPU and 50C max on CPU cores...so I guess a 240mm would work

If I do go that way should I run the loop like 240mm > 120mm > CPU > GPU > Pump/Res > 240mm ? Cheers.

Waco did testing on this and found a 1c temp difference i think. Just as long as you dont have 50ft of tube in your case which will decrease flow and make the pump work harder. El_Capitan Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 A moderator should sticky those types of tests/results.
