rbneville Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Hello everyone, I just recently upgraded my mainboard to the MSI G41M-P26. When I went in to the bios I noticed my CPU was running hot (68c) so I decided I'll bump down the FSB until I get a better cooler, but when I went into the bios I noticed I was already at the minimum multiplier. I also noticed that I could raise the FSB to the point of needing Liquid Nitrogen cooling (9 ghz). Of coarse I dont care to go that high, so my question is, If I raise the FSB (to give a total speed of 4 ghz) does this board automatically adjust the voltage? There is no setting to adjust voltage just FSB. Thanks, Richard
Stonerboy779 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 You should not be at 68C in bios. I would ensure that you have your cooler properly mounted and if at all possible borrow a IR thermometer to make sure the bios isnt reporting wrong. After reseating clear cmos to ensure all voltages and settings are at default and look at temps.

I still need better thermal paste as the temp jumps to almost 80c when under load then stabilizes at 70c. Thanks, Richard
d6bmg Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 ^ Yeah, definitely you need a better thermal paste. 80C is seriously high.
rbneville Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 ^ Yeah, definitely you need a better thermal paste. 80C is seriously high. Just bought some Artic Silver and put it on and got 31c idle That takes care of that problem. Now to stress test it
d6bmg Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Artic Silver 5? Isn't it electroconductive?
scr4wl Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Artic Silver 5? Isn't it electroconductive? Yes, but he's not going to be spreading it around his motherboard The only problem, IMO, with AS5 is that retardedly long curing time -.- @OP To answer your question, you can not just set any random FSB and expect it to be successful. If you want to overclock your chip you'll have to increase the FSB in small increments, and adjust voltages as you go.
