Hyper Threaded Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 After three years with the HD4870, I have decided now is the right time to upgrade my GPU for F@H. New card is an MSI HD6950 2gb TwinFrozr III. This thing is much faster than the HD4870, about twice as fast at stock speed. Old card had a problem with the fan bearing, which made it incredibly noisy.
Water_Hazard Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 If you were upgrading for folding at home why did you go with ATI?
F13Bubba Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Nvdia cards get a ton more ppd than amd/ati

SpeedCrazy Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 The funny thing is I beat the pants off all you losers and I only fold my CPU! Not when i am doing bigadvs at 3.9GHz with 8 threads. + 2 GPU 3 clients. That was almost 100kppd(on a good day) Sadly i cant afford the power anymore... but ALWAYS (when you can)
Guest_Jim_* Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Just wait until the new client/drivers come out.. How long have we been waiting for the OpenCL client? I'm looking forward to it coming too, but at this point it just seems to be vaporware. Still, that upgrade is going to help with folding, even if an nVidia card could do more.
