RyanC Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 While I have a fair amount of experience building mahcines I have zero when it comes to overclocking; so I thought I would ask for help before I fry my box. Here are the specs: mobo: ASUS Crosshair IV Formula CPU: AMD Athlon II x2 250 mem: x2 A-DATA XPG Gaming Series v2.0 4GB DDR3 1600 vid: x2 XFX Radeon 5770 I've tried using the software that AMD provides to "auto-tune" both the system and the vid cards, but all that ever seems to accomplish is making my machine freeze. So what are my next steps? Where do I begin? Thanks in advance for any info or guidance anyone can give me. -RyanC
Onion Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 As I've never overclocked an AMD system, I can't help you very much, but I CAN tell you to avoid overclocking your cpu with software at all costs. It HAS to be done in the BIOS, or things won't end very well for your rig. As for the GPU, software overclocking is fine.

RyanC Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 The case is a Rosewill R103A (2x 80mm fans) and the PS is a OCZ 700w StealthXtreme OCZ700SXS. What else do you need? I've got 2 SSD's and 3 7200rpm SATA drives in there too (I dont remember the drive specs off the top of my head). The CPU cooler is stock. I can help. Can you post your full system and what CPU cooler are you using?
