Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 rev 2.1 bios f6

Corsair vengeance 2x4gb 1600mhz cl8

im looking at gettin 4.2ghz or higher anything i can get stable.

so my question is who can quide me through step by step on how to do it.

what do i have to change in the bios, where abouts in the bios can i find it.

do i have to disable anything to be able to overclock?

i will just like to say thanks in advance for any help i get.

Hello and welcome to OCC james91!

While I am not a Phenom II overclocker I think this guide may be helpful in overclocking your Phenom II x6. It is a bit of a long read (and I recommend you read through the whole thing before changing any settings) but the more knowledge you have the better you will be at overclocking and the more fun it will be!

I would recommend you get the following programs to test your overclocks:

CoreTemp - This allows you to see the temps of your CPU and helps you make sure they are not too high.

Prime95 - This allows you to load your CPU to test the overclock. Generally people use Small FFTs for maximum CPU stress testing.

Hope that helps mate :)

I am extreamly interested in your finding, I am getting a new CPU next week and I was looking at the 1090T (I have an X3 720be) I have an A70 heatsink thouh which is not liquid cooled like yours. let me know how it goes!

ok well i am finding it really hard to get a stable overclock right now.

i had it booting at 4.2ghz but during prime it would just shut down.

so im gonna get i was either over volting or under volting it.

maybe it was getting enough from the psu :/

What are you current voltage settings etc?

What PSU are you using?

This Tuesday i am getting this CPU and a ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3. I will let you know how it goes for me as I plan on OCing this also. I have the A70 cooler which works well for me. On my current CPU I can only get 4 ticks higher than the stock with out it crashing so don't feel bad, and I have had this for over a year. It has a lot to do with voltages and bringing up other settings with your CPU that I don't quite understand yet so I know how you feel.

Hopefully I can get my up to 4Ghz and if I do i will let you know what settings I used so that you may also try them. I don't think Cool-n-quite will cause an OC to fail just won't let your computer run at full speed all the time. Not sure what c1e is though.

Edit: removed typos.

For 4ghz use 1.45v and use 286fsb x 14 to give you 4ghz and for 4.2ghz you need 1.475v with 255fsb x 16.5 to give you 4.2ghz .

Remember to have LLC enabled and have HT Link and NB at around 2500mhz - 2600mhz

Stress test with prime and see your temps . I have an H70 with 2x2000rpm fans in an excellently cooled HAF932 and I come in at 51C in summer load
