theredchaser Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 The system hasn't been overclocked yet, but the idle temps are very high at around 60C for each core. The cpu cooler is upgraded to a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus. Even if the cooler was a complete pos, I'm dumbfounded on how the idle temps could be so high. There is adequate case circulation with all fans on high. I'm going to re-seat the cooler when i get some better thermal paste, but if anyone has any ideas about this, I'd really appreciate it. IVIYTH0S Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Ya I'd reseat and make sure the fan is spinning on the 212 (that's a decent cooler) Is there case exhaust fans?? I'd run it with the case side off too

Which there's no way a stock cooler would even run at 60C idle

Those are nice temps with the ECO, what kind of voltage are you running and what chip? Chaser, try pulling up the cooler again, clean it off and apply a fresh coat of thermal paste to the cpu. With my hyper 212+ I got the best results when I was slightly more liberal with the thermal paste. It fills in the gaps ant works quite well. You should be able to pull a nice overclock with that, make sure you did the braket correctly. It took me a couple tries to figure it out
theredchaser Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Fan was definitely spinning, and the temps are pretty much the same with the case open or closed. I think I'll try to lap the cooler tomorrow after I buy some thermal paste. Wish me luck...

IVIYTH0S Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 K I thought the base was nickel-plated copper? You're right haha, I thought it was aluminum. why did they put nickel coating anyway?
theredchaser Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 The bios is the newest version for my mobo. I ended up lapping the cooler, reapplying thermal paste after taking the old crud off, then slapped 2 100+cfm fans for a push-pull. Undervolted the vcore by a tiny bit to 1.25v. Added another case fan. My temps are now in the 50's range, which still sucks...
