New Build Advice

It has been like 4 to 5 years since I build a new system. I would like to know if there are better price/performance components that I may exchange in your opinion. I am also planning to OC the cpu to maybe 4ghz and the graphic card as well, of course I would have to read a lot more in order to keep myself from frying anything.

I will for sure go with the cpu and mobo no question about that. In regards to the RAM I posted those 2 since I did not know better or you can also suggest any other. The psu I posted is for future crossfire most likely (not sure yet). System is for both hardcore gaming and also lots of multi applications video encoding and such.

I need to know which gamer keyboard and mouse would be best and of course what do you all think about this build. Thanks in advance for any advice.

i'd personally ditch the reapers and just stick with the ripjaws. do you really need 8gb? i do a fair bit of video / dvd encoding and never fully utilise my 4gb.

 

best keyboard and mouse are a matter of opinion, some people prefer logitech, some prefer razer. i use a generic microsoft keyboard and a logitech G5. you could get the Logitech MX 5500 gaming keyboard and mouse combo, its down to $120 after rebates.

 

the specs of the motherboard you selected are almost identical to the Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5. you could get the gigabyte and save yourself $50

 

is there a budget for this build? if not i'd swap the 5850 for a 5870 or a gtx 470.

Well, the 8 gigs is for taking advantage of the 64bit system, although not many applications yet on that but anyways ready for the future.

I had chosen the mobo based on the reviews over the giga is easier to oc and supposedly better. I would go with the ripjaws then, great reviews on newegg.

The reason I was thinking about the 5850 is because supposedly you can get it to the 5870 performance oced.

I'm a bit of a noise freak, I want my system to be quiet as a church. I'd suggest going with a Cooler Master Silent Pro 850 (although a 700 would probably be more than sufficient) instead of the Corsair. I seriously can't hear my PSU, it's great. Plus it's modular and the flat black wires are good looking yet unobtrusive.

+1. I'd also like to throw out a recommendation for the Cooler Master V6GT which we reviewed. Seems to be a serious performer.

+1 Better off getting Noctua HSF as Joel.Monteiro suggested or something prolimatech Megahalems with Noctua NF-P12 fans. Great performer and very quiet.

Lunatic, I think I will stick to the Corsair 850hx because I may go crossfire on the future, besides, its rated about the best of the best on most reviews I have seen, Although I have not made my final decision yet.

 

Joel.Monteiro - I scraped the V8 and was thinking first about the Noctua NH-D14 instead of the NH-U12P SE2 for only $20.00 more at $89.99

 

BP9801 - That is a great looking Cpu cooler, love the 4 different type of led that it can be used and also the design of it like an engine nothing looks better than it, however the NH-D14 is twice less noisy and I believe it out performs it. They both Huge and I mean Huge and heavy so I came across the CORSAIR Cooling Hydro Series CWCH50-1 for $79.99 - $10.00 bucks less than the Noctua and is a single water cooler option. I do not know how it performs the Noctua but for 10 bucks less, the weight of it and the free space that will leave in my rig sounds good. Then again I do not know anything about cooling options I just read a bit. My final decision will rest on the advices I get and I have no idea if I can use the H50 with the case I chose.

The Corsair H50 will work just fine in the HAF 932. I own the case and it has mounting holes for 120mm and 140mm fans on the rear, so just attach the H50 to the rear fan spot and you'll be good to go. You may want to get two 120mm fans for the H50.. the one it comes with is nice but I know people who have upgraded it to get better performance. Plus with two fans you can do a push/pull setup to help control the temps even better.

The H50 works out pretty well. I think with the right fans it can be comparable or better than some of the high end air coolers. Its a lighter load on your motherboard as well.. some of the high end air coolers can be quite heavy and a few are even designed to only work in a horizontal position, so something light like the H50 is a good choice. In the end though, either option would cool your CPU down just fine.

If I posted the link above correctly that is how my shopping cart looks like. I decided to stay with the Corsair 850 since is cheaper and crossfire certify which the silent pro is not. Read good and bad reviews from both. Since I am going with the h50 I still need to add a 120mm fan if I am not mistaken if so which one should I get, nice, good and quiet? Also still missing the good gaming mouse and keyboard, did not like wireless from bad experiences in the past, rather the usb ones.
