Cooler for an i5-750

I had originally chosen the NH-U9B SE2 by Noctua, but I'm not sure that I'd get all of the performance I want out of it. I think it'd keep things cool enough for stock clocks, but I'm not so sure about overclocking.

Thus, I am seeking recommendations for a heatsink/fan assembly. There's a few things I want in a heatsink/fan:

  1. Good base quality
  2. Good performance
  3. Doesn't sound like a jet engine (though a bit of noise is tolerable, even loud HSF's are quieter than my laptop)
[*[Will fit into an NZXT Tempest EVO without blocking the side, back, or top fans

I kind of like the NH-U9B SE2 because it's a smaller HSF, but again, I'm starting to drift from it because I don't know that it'd have all the performance I want.

I have no real brand preference, though, as long as it works. For budget... I don't really want to go cheap cheap cheap of an HSF because it's kind of vital to the longevity of my computer. So don`t worry about the cost too too much. Unless it costs like $100+ dollars or something... :P

I use Prolimatech megahalems with Noctua NF-P12 fans. They have a high static pressure needed. Works great. Often second in reviews and quite a bit better than the NH-U9B

Best you can get (and what knocked megahalems off top spot) is Noctua D14. Awesome, but quite large so you would need to check for fit. Best air cooling you can get.

I don't think I need anything as... extreme... as the D14. :P But I'll take a look at those Magehalems.

lol - no such thing as too extreme imo. The fins on Megahalems are close so make sure you look at fans with higher static pressure.

Hmm... Those larger heatsinks look nice... But will they fit in the Tempest EVO? I was looking at the NH-U9B because of its smaller stature (though that would mean less performance).

I have no doubt that the NH-U9B would keep me within safe operating temps. It'd still be WAY better than the stock HSF. But.... still. If they'll fit in the case, I'll look into a megahalem or maybe even the D14. I suppose the cooler, the better, right?

Plenty wide enough for a Megahalems. Cooler is definitely better and will let you push the overclock higher. The NH-U9B much better than stock but your case is 8 in wide so will take bigger than that.
