Waco Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 With DDR2-800 you aren't going to get much over 3.2 GHz (400*8) - and that's assuming your mobo can do 400 FSB without any issues.

I think the main limiting thing will be your cpu cooler
Waco Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 (edited) my q9550s at 3.7ghz with ddr2 800 and running fine You have an 8.5 multiplier and you're overclocking your RAM by ~70 MHz (which can be tough with a lot of RAM these days rated at DDR2-800). If he keeps his RAM in spec he's limited to 3.2 GHz where you are limited to 3.4 GHz. To get 3.6 GHz out of his machine he'd need to be running at 450 MHz FSB, overclocking his RAM by 100 MHz. That seems unlikely to be stable to me - I tend to avoid overclocking RAM as much as possible. Edited March 30, 2011 by Waco

Wont hurt to try

Waco Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 maybe with some latency relaxing it could be possible. Wont hurt to try True. I just hate overclocking memory because it's so finicky to get a completely stable OC out of it. my q9400 runs on 3.60ghz with kingston hyperx dd2 on 1080. runs fine all time.. Is your DDR2-800 completely memtest stable at 1080? If so, that's impressive and not very common.

[/quote waco, i remember once ago had run the memtest and passed. but i forgotten it's on which setting either 800 or 1080, anyway will run it again tomorrow with 1080 to double confirm. yeah by the way it's suppose to be a performance series DDR2 ram if i not mistaken something code KHX8500D2K2/4G..... Well if that's the right code you've got DDR2-1066, not DDR2-800 like the OP.
dihartnell Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Well if that's the right code you've got DDR2-1066, not DDR2-800 like the OP. I've always thought that DDR2-1066 was just decently binned DDR2-800 in reality. I know what you mean by RAM being difficult to overclock. I've always tended to focus on keeping near stock and tightening timings instead.
