NCC10281982B Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I'm trying to setup GPU folding my 4850 I get the error 0xfffffff6. The FaHWiki says the following: -10 CoreStatus = FFFFFFF6 (-10) Client-core communications error: ERROR 0xfffffff6 This is a sign of more serious problems, shutting down. CAL returns this error code when it cannot initialize the GPU. Verify that there is a monitor on that card and that the Windows desktop has been extended to it. Verify that you're running the correct version of the .dll files. This is a new install of F@H and I have monitor connected and everything. Ideas? tjmagneto Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 In the fahlog I noticed an argument of GPU 1 and a path involving a GPU2. Are you trying to run multiple cards?
NCC10281982B Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 yes
tjmagneto Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I would check to see if Crossfire is disabled. There was a post on the folding forum about that error and disabling Crossfire was suggested. OBTW, welcome to the multiple folding GPU club!
NCC10281982B Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I think it is a corssfire board. i can not find a Cf setting in the bios or windows GFX settings; My primary card is a 9800GTX. Di these two just not play nice?
tjmagneto Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I checked the Folding Forum and somebody had asked a similar question in this thread . It looks like the ATI and Nvidia cards don't play nice together.
ARandomOWL Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 To my knowledge XP & Vista allow only 1 display driver. However I heard Win7 allows 2 or maybe more? In that case it maybe possible in Win7.

NCC10281982B Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Correction. I am still getting the error on the second GPU, also a 9800GTX. I don't know what is up with this I suppose I could just build more single GPU rigs
tjmagneto Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 That's wierd. The only information I could dredge up is that error most likely is limited to ATI cards. I'd suggest first wiping out the files of the offending card and starting over. Be sure to follow the guide on multiple GPUs (I'm sure that I'm stating the obvious). The only other thing I can think of is trying the -force gpu nvidia_g80 switch for the second GPU, so the switches for the first and second cards would look like: -gpu 0 -gpu 1 -forcegpu nvidia_g80 If a knuclkehead like me can get 2 GPUs folding, anything is possible. NCC10281982B Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 It seems to be working now. I just hope it keeps working
