bignik Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Hey all! This is my first post even though I have been checking out this forum for quite some time now. Time has come for me to ask a question. So... I was planning in changing computer. As a case I was planning to get a Thermaltake Armor+ black. Motherboard is the ASUS P5Q Pro. Other details arn't important... For my heatsink I was looking for something good for the 775 socket. I came up with the COOLER MASTER V8. Isn 't way too expensive, looks good, and good reviews are all over the net. Now... my main concern is space. The Armor+ case measures 600 x 245 x 625 mm. COOLER MASTER V8 takes up 120 x 128 x 161.1mm. Do you think that it will fit? Take into consideration the cpu, Mobo, sidepanels, etc... which do take up space and that therefore the 245mm of width of the case may not be enough for the width of the heatsink and all of the stuff that is stacked under it.... Opinions? Am I the only one that is noticing that heatsinks are becoming MASSIVE? Good lord Motherboards will need to be the size of parking lots to have space for high end heatsinks and still have space for the rest of the computer and cables! note that I am pessimist by nature.... <_< Any other suggestions on other heatsinks I could use are welcome... note that my budget isn't huge... Crazy_Nate Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I have an armor case (not the plus). I'm using a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (TRUE) and it's 160.5 mm tall. There's plenty of room for mine, so there should be plenty of room for your V8. My case is 220mm wide.
rourkchris Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I've got a P5Q Pro and use a Prolimatech Megahalems on it with no problems. It's bigger than the TRUE so a TRUE would definitely fit. A Sunbeam Core-Contact is cheaper and will fit and gets good reviews. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835207004 http://www.jab-tech.com/Prolimatech-Megaha...66-pr-4428.html http://www.jab-tech.com/Thermalright-Ultra...BP-pr-4388.html
bignik Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Thanks! I'll have to make up my mind but at least I know I won't have to worry about size.
