xly15 Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 it gets to a picture of a bird lokking thing and then stays there for 4 hours not doing a thing. I was just wondering if that is normal?

Guest ajmatson Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Can you snap a pic of it? I only install via the command line so it would help to see what you are seeing.
Archerzz Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 If you boot using the live cd it should take you to the desktop and there should be an install icon there. Have you gotten that far? if so did you make it through the install process without any errors?
hardnrg Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 I'm certain the default option for the Ubuntu CD is to run live *without* installing... the "bird thing" is probably the Hardy Heron desktop wallpaper, and it's not doing anything because it's just running Linux (from the CD) I select "Install to hard drive" or words to that effect, when booting from the CD
xly15 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 no when i run the live i just select install ubuntu from the beginning. it gets to the wierd wallpaper then just remains there. I will have to try again later. it has already stole a night's worth of sleep from me.

CheeseMan42 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 a night's worth of sleep? how about a guide with pics: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicalInstall It goes so much quicker if you run it without booting to the LiveCD first. I just installed Server 8.10 about 30 minutes ago. Command line is all I got .
