Overclocking E8500 Temps/ Frequency

Hey :) Just got a new computer, and just joined these forums

I have a AC Freezer Pro 7, and an E8500

This is what I have the E8500 running at right now, I'm just a little concerned about temperatures.

Under load it runs around about 58 C / 59 C (According to SpeedFan, Core 0 and Core 1 are always fairly close to each other)

Is this normal? Is it too hot? Is this fan good enough?

Cheers,

Ryan

Voltage... That being said lower it as far as you can and still stay stable. My e8400 is fine at 3.6GHz with 1.26V. Also if you just built the computer give the components a few weeks to burn in before you start to OC. It lets the thermal compound fuse with the heat sink and chip and all that. :typing:

how do i set my multiplier to 9.5x with the E8500?

You might have to flash your bios to get it to be compatible with the 8500. But first id read the manual that came with your board to find out what setting in the bios has to be enabled for it to do half multipliers. Once you get the board to read the half multipliers it will be a lot easier to get it to 3.6. I would not worry about overclocking it till you fix the half multiplier issue, because you are going to have to reset your bios to default and start all over again any way. The settings are going to be different with the 9.5 mutli.

Alright, thanks for everyone's help. I just had to enable n/2 (somthing or other) and it works as a 9.5 multiplier.

Also, I downloaded Realtemps, and the cores are running about 10-13 degrees cooler than speedfan said, so that's good news..

And Im taking ocmooz advice, I changed it back to

For now, and in a couple weeks i will try to overclock again. I had it running successfully at 3.8 ghz, air cooled at about 35 degrees idle (400x9.5). I hope i can get it to about 4, in the future... Thanks for all your help. And if 1 more question for you ocmooz, if i put it to manual voltage and put it at 1.26, and try to clock but the clock is too high, will it just keep it at 1.33 or will it crash?

Cheers,

Ryan
