Im attempting my first build and I could use all the suggestions I can get. This tower will be used entirely for gaming, im looking for the best performance/dollar ratio and upgrade-ability. Also Ill be playing at 1680x1050 and run Xp Home

Budget is $1100 USD

Iv put together some parts, do you think I'm getting the most performance for my money?

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor

Mobo: ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboar

Video: SAPPHIRE 100242L Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card (CF as a future upgrade)

RAM:

HSF:

PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V NVIDIA SLI Ready ATI CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply

I have $850 for these components, also I would like to crossfire as a future upgrade after I upgrade my monitor.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

If your primary intent is gaming, I'd suggest you forgo the quad core part in favor of the cheaper and better performing E8400, as for your HSF and RAM I'd suggest the following...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835233003 - Xigmatek HDT-S1283

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231098 - G.Skill DDR2-800 2GB

As for the rest, you're off to a terrific start and the 4850 definitely fits into your criteria. :thumbs-up:

Have you selected a case?

Thanks for the help.

I have heard good things about this one COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

I will definitely take your advise on the E8400, I was kinda on the fence there to start. Do you think there is anything to gain by spending more on the RAM? Got some extra money left.

You could definitely go up to 2x2GB of DDR2 800 or 1066.

If you're at 1680x1050, you probably won't need Crossfire. You might be able to squeeze in a 4870 anyways... ;)
