fariss Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 This build is going to be primarily for gaming & video encoding. Speed & stability are the primary needs. If there is going to any OCing it will be to a small degree. Besides the encoding there won't be much need for multitasking. It should also be able to be upgraded as the need arises. CPU's considered are: 1. Intel Q6600. 2. Intel Core 2 Duo E6850. Owner is leaning towards the E6850 as I am. Mobo: 1. Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6. 2. ASUS Maximus Formula. This choice is wide open. Other boards can be considered. like the Gigabyte & he prefers the ASUS. Please feel free to add comments. Build will take place in 3 weeks. Branjo Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I'd go with the Quad it lives to encode, it will do you good now and in the future. Either of those boards would be a sweet choice they look to be on par with each other.

Guest r3d c0m3t Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 As of this very moment, no. The Q6600 won't improve your framerates at all because most games lack the support for multi-core setups. I'd have to agree with Branjo, and A_G, go with the Q6600 for encoding. For gaming, again, the Q6600 won't make a difference. In fact, the Q6600 will act as the E6600 which it's based upon when gaming.
Angry_Games Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Is there a difference in gaming? nope see no difference between my dual core AMD64's, Intel Core2's, and that quad in gaming. Some games maybe get a boost or such, but games today are all about your video card. But since you do more than game, you'll want a dual core or better and I'd go with a quad myself if I could afford it.
