Sata I vs II

Unless you need the added drive space I would not swap them out. You will see more of a speed up going from 8mb of cache to 16mb then going from SATA I to SATA II. Thats just my to cents worth.

I think it realy hurts a rig to run everything from one hard drive. I run no less than 3 at any time, even an IDE drive will help here. Get the OS,Pagefile and game/program onto their own disk and you will see an improvement. So if i were you I would go for 2 x 80Gb drives instead then you could even raid 0 them. You could probably pick up 2 x 80's for the same price or even 2 x 160's for a few bucks extra.

i dunno, i dont wana mess around with raid.

currently, i have 2 HD's, Seagate 250gb sata i, wd 80gb sata ii

i bought the WD for a server thats going to be built. so i was wondering..

should i install my OS onto the WD 80gb? and use the 250gb for the server and have another 250gb SATA ii as my game/music drive?

or everything onto a 320gb, and keep my 250gb for backup/use for server, 80gb for backup/use for server?

IDE and sata are the same .

I've yet to see a drive read or write over 100 MBps in any benchmark I do

The cables are nicer.. but that's it.

The drive itself may be faster, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the interface, but rather, the making of the drive.
