TVFREAKAZOID Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I want to do a fresh install of MS xp. The problem is I have a newer version of xp installed right now and the xp cd i have is a older version( legit cd). Because of that it won't let me re-install xp using the older cd. I do have sp2 just on a different cd. So how can I go about doing a fresh install? The reason i'm doing this is because my computer is running sluggish and I want to start over sort of speak. Any ideas what I need to do? I have the bios to boot from cd. I also get a error message that the NTLDER is missing.
Coors Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Try reformatting the drive. That should get rid of any issues of Windows not letting you do a fresh install.

radodrill Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 You can slipstream SP2 into the install CD; directions here: http://angrygames.com/slipstream_sp2.htm

Angry_Games Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 It's too difficult for me. it is NOT too difficult for you if I can do it... the only other way is to use DOS (Win98 boot disk/floppy) and use Fdisk to destroy the partitions on the drive (or Partition Magic or some other utility like this) best is to slipstream SP2 into your older XP installer cd. Coors Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 You can't reformat after booting from the Windows disc? You should be able to in the part where it asks you what partition you want to install to or if you want to create/delete a partition. radodrill Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Did you make sure that the CD/DVD is ahead the HDDs in the boot priority (set in the BIOS)? Slipstreaming is easy; even I've done it before.
Coors Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 When you boot from the cd set your boot priority to the cd drive. It sounds like that is the problem. Or try hitting "esc" while it boots to bring up a list to boot from and pick the cd drive.
uneedav8 Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 If it says the NTLDR is missing....it does not seem like it is trying to boot off the cd. Put the cd-rom drive in boot priority 1 and disable 2nd-4th boot devices.
