expresso Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 hi - i have the Ultra D board - i just like to know what is the highest x2 processor that i would be able to put in this board - for future upgrades etc, -- its a 939 pin -- i may think of upgrading the processor when the prices come down in a year to the highest i can use -- does anyone know which one that would be - ? thanks -- i like to go higher than 4800+ -- since i am running at 2.7 now - i like to start with a chip thats stock at 2.6 if i can and work the OC again --
Anakin_hollan Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 FX-60 is the highest that will be released on 939, but way to expensive, and won't run that much harder... I you want higher, get an Opty 165/170. Still "lock of the draw" though... Cheers!
Tiamat Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Im pretty sure the FX-60 is a socket 939 dual core
expresso Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 hi - thanks - so the 4800 + is the highest - i though they made a 5000+ i am not sure - but i though i saw a 5000+ how fast is the opty - compared to the x2 -- they are both dual core right ? what is the highest speed i can use on my board with the opty ? thanks
expresso Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 the fx 60 sounds nice - but i think its too high of a price for me - i figure once quad cores come out -- in a year - the others would come down in price alot - i may be able to get something at a good price but also want to be able to OC and get something over the 3ghz speed since i am at 2.7 now - i dont want to upgrade for nothing thanks
Tiamat Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Its a tough decision. I personally think this x2 4400+ is a beast when properly overclocked, so i'm gonna wait until the whole Vista commotion has settled before deciding what I need to upgrade with. Im thinkin of goin for an ATI Crossfire setup once DX10 has truly taken.
expresso Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 thanks - i was just checking the prices on the opty - and to be honest i dont see any with a dual core that would be really worth it over the x2 i have running at 2.7 now - and since the highest i can get is the 4800 x2 and i am running faster than a stock 4800+ x2 now - i dont see why bother unless the prices come down alot in a year from now -- i really dont want to change the board -- figure just a cpu change down the line - but looks like i may wait for the quad cores if i have to change the board also - another thing - i just noticed - i just got in a HP pavilion with the Turion 64 x2 - running at 2.0 ghz - when i check the specs with pc wizard - the processor says its a opty ? -- is the correct ? this is my first notebook - and its too slow for me compared to my desk top - thanks
