fst h2o Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Well, I messed up. With the arrival of fall/winter here in Wyoming, I planned to re-overclock my computer. In the process of doing so, my Windows install got corrupted, and couldn't be recovered. That in itself isn't that big of a deal, just do a fresh install. Well, while going to quickly to re-install Windows, I accidentally reformatted my storage drive and erased all of my pictures, ripped music, games, and game saves... Just a word of warning to everyone (something you all probably know already): BACKUP ANYTHING IMPORTANT BEFORE OVERCLOCKING!!! fst h2o Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Ahhh... I suppose that I could try that. I didn't think of that, and have never tried it. Any good, free applications that can do that?
KimTjik Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 As a first test whether you want and need to recover files you could test this program which is for free: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pcinspector.html It's not perfect but it might be able to recover something and give you an idea if it worth it to try other software. fst h2o Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Awesome. It looks like one of the links had a program that will recover it. It looks like Handy Recovery will recover my files. I just need to purchase a license for it. The trial version (1 file recovered per day for 30 days) has already recovered one of my photos. Everything else on the disk was replacable, just time consuming, but the photos were the only copies I had of them. First thing I'm going to do when I get them recovered is burn to disc. Thanks for the help.
calvintang Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 you should split the 400gb to a few partitions so lets say next time you have this problem on one of your partitions, you can transfer it to the other partitions.instead of burning dvds
red930 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 the next time you overclock, unhook your storage drive.
shatteredsteel Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Google helix, its a free network forensics cd. If you can get around in the linux GUI its a peice of cake getting your files back (as long as they weren't overwriten as mentioned above)
