allthatwhichis Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 :wow: I got a great deal on this Venus, well I hope it's a good deal. It is only the board, no toys or cool box... Picked it up here on the street for <$200. I'm not sure how to find what number it is though.. Nice test set up huh? I got it as I was walking out my door to go to work; so I grabbed a 3000 vinnie, my plat elites, a drive, this old case, and a PSU and brought it all to work to test it out... Yes... that is a stock HSF. 1st problem was the PSU... my Antec NeoPwr 480 didn't have the 8 pin 12 volt connector. I'm glad I have the Best Buy card for emergencies like this. The best thing they had was a BFG 650 at much more than I should pay but, this IS an emergency right? Too bad there is no medicine for this sickness... 2nd problem, my drive has an OS but is getting a read error... and I forgot to bring a XP disk... I don't think I have an emergency back up plan for this... I'll have to wait till I get home... A question for those with a Venus... What is this Core Temp adjustment? I know this CPU isn't "idling" in the BIOS at 26C...

If you have a way of qualifying the difference between the reading and real temp you can make the adjustment.

O, well, at least I know. Thanks Roadie! I say F Monarch too...
allthatwhichis Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Can anyone point out where the serial number is on this board. Where it shows on the DFI site I see a 16 digit number with no bar code. That is on the top PCIE slot. On the top PCI slot there is the modle and part numbers. I am trying to register the board and the number I think is the SN is not fitting in the text box provided for the SN... Thanks! allthatwhichis Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Thanks! I'm concerned though. I don't have a serial number where everyone else does... And the stickers on the PCIE slot has a number but it doesn't sound like any number anyone else has mentioned... I'd take a picture but my camera keeps telling me that the "foucus too close" when I try. The picture of the board above shows the lack of sticket by the CPU... The part number sticker says Venus, well with all the other stuff, P/N and all, but no serial #... and the Logo Screen says Venus, so I'm sure it IS a Venus, but... The seller said it could be an Engineering Sample but was not sure. I know it's kinda stupid, but I want to know what # this board is. -1, 1001? The white sticker should have an 11 digit number on it, your serial is the last 4 of this number Oh and welcome to the club
allthatwhichis Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 The white sticker should have an 11 digit number on it, your serial is the last 4 of this number Oh and welcome to the club Thanks! but nope, there is no sticker on the board near the cpu, the sticker on the top PCIE slot has a 16 digit number, and I didn't get any sleeve... I been looking around on where to find the number. I got a part number on the top PCI slot but... O well. The seller said it didn't have a number, so I am not suprised, it is just a mystery to me. I got it booted, and am about to load some drivers and... go to bed. Tomorrow, or later tonight... my tomorrow is my Friday!!! Then I have to decide what to do with what chip in what board... ATM I have the opty 165. I am selling my 3000 vinnie on eBay and don't want to accidently fry it before the auction ends... Not that I want to fry any chip... Off to load drivers... and we call this a hobby.
Evil-Fruits|R4z Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 So its not like this, in this location between the CPU and the top PCI-e slot?
Anakin_hollan Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 So its not like this, in this location between the CPU and the top PCI-e slot? Judging on the pictures available in the first post, no. Seems like an all-grey rectangle?
Evil-Fruits|R4z Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Good spot, didnt notice that. Looks like its been taped over or something?
WintersFury Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Nope... no temp sensors. O, well, at least I know. Thanks Roadie! I say F Monarch too... I know there are programs that will read the temp diode from in the CPU. I know SpeedFan and CoreTemp both do. So you may want to check them out. My board reports the temp to be 11c under the core temp. Could be bad if your ocing with that much of a temp difference.
