Northbridge fan for 975x/g

Is there a good one, and do I have to take off the passive cooler that is on there, or can I slot the fan ontop of it?

You could probably just slap a fan on top of it, but I'd recommend removing it and throwing some AS5 or Ceramique on first. It'd probably be better to just point an 80mm+ fan in that direction though.

 

Otherwise...I think H_G mentioned a couple that would work in his thread on this board (its stickied), not sure how well any of them work but I'm sure they're better than the stock one.

Arctic silver 5 on nb heatsink brought my temps down 5'.

I just stuck a 40mm fan on the heatsink & set it to full on in the bios.

Thermalright NB-1 = cheapest solution that is compatible with temps equal to what any other cooler will give you

 

there's also a copper version

 

Thermalright HR-05 chipset cooler = passive, excellent temps, will fit on the motherboard while also using Thermalright XP-90, XP-120, SI-120 for sure, and probably any Thermalright heatsink
