Vanne Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Hi guys and gals, ive just been reading a few reviews of the new Nvidia 590 chipset, and in there at talks about "Link Boost", a feature that overclocks the PCI-e slot and the HHT by 25 percent automatically if you run a Nvidia 7900GTX or higher? is there any gain to be had by this? Is it possible for me to do the same in the genie bios on my Ultra-D? just a quick calc makes me look rather suspicious at the numbers... my ht is running at 1888 at the moment, slighly under 2K, but if i were to increase this by 25 percent, id get 2360. Thats rather quite a bit above the standard 2K?
Mindflux Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Speeding HTT out of spec has about the same significance as 8 cars traveling the same direction on a 16 lane highway and you suddenly make the highway 20 lanes wide. It does not speed up anything. All 8 cars already had their own lane and adding lanes did nothing to speed up anything. So...Probably not on HTT Don't know about OCing the PCIe slot...as far as I can tell nothing really maxes out the bandwith of that either so I wouldn't think that would do much either. ReelFiles Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 OCing the PCI-E frequency would be a similar concept, since it doesn't get fully saturated anyways.
Vanne Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 so your saying its a bogus sell point? and theres no merit at all in OC'ing the HT or the PCI-e slot?
ReelFiles Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Exactly.
