njparton Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 I'm running my current setup with the 704-2BTA bios and am about to purchase an opteron 170 and 2GB of G SKill PC4000 ram to replace my venice and 1GB Corsair ram. Can/should I stick with this BIOS for my NF4 SLI-D or go with a different one? Thanks
Guest GripS Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Nope. That BIOS you currently have will work just fine. It would be a good idea to do a clean windows install though.
red930 Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 The current Bios you're using should be fine (704-2BTA). I've used that bios with my Opteron 165 and G.SKILL F1 PC4000 before and it worked the same as the Beta Bios that i'm now using. lowboy Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 The bios your using should work fine with the dual core. For dual core support need 623 or later bios.
njparton Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Thanks guys. I read somewhere else that I may need to do a clean install. Going to try it without first and resort to that if necessary. Getting sick and tired of phoning Microsoft every 6 months to re-validate windows! I've downloaded the dual core driver from the AMD website. Will this bios recognise the opteron or will it show "unrecognised cpu" or something similar?
madian225 Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Hi I just checked mine as it states " AMD Dual Core Opteron " so you should be fine
