ISSA2000 Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 would running a psu with a 20+4 connector on a dfi board cause graphics card performace to go down and could it cause tear in games using high hertz on a nice monitor(100hz in game) -Norq you must use a 24 pin psu .. with eithetr a p4 4pin or 8 pin connector... 4 pins on the atx connector provide extra power to the video card via the fsb connectors- even if the car need a extra power via pci express power connector or molex plug. wierd things happen depending on card etc.. Voltes-5 Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Did you purchase the 20 pin psu already or you already have one from an old rig? If the answer to those 2 is no, save yourself the guessing and headache if it does'nt work, get a psu with a 24/8 pin connector. Oceanborn Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Just to clarify...my powerstream has a detachable 24 pin for backwards compatibility...if you have a native 20 pin and the 4 extra 12v for the CPU alone you're gonna need to buy a new native 24 pin PSU

HanzoRazor Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 you are complaining about tearing in CS at 640 x 480 using a 7900GT and you want to replace the motherboard? I'm not trying to be a smart butt just trying to figure out the complaint. If you want the tearing to go away without V-sync put the resolution to the max your monitor will allow apply some anti aliasing and some anisotropic filtering. It will still tear from time to time occasionally though.
NEOAethyr Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Uh.... Up the refresh by using a custom monitor driver, it must specifiy a min refresh rate higher then 60hz to help out a bit. Higher is better when it comes to actual displayed frame rate. On 2k system this is not possible, xp and up it is. This may be out of the ? depending on your knowledge in such things. The other way is to niscrease speed, but cpu, mobo and idep card, etc. Even hacking the video card's bios for timings can help. Publicly know timings won't make a noticeable diffrent though on tearing... One that would is tREF, ont he vga card, but that's not public knowledge for the most part. So the olnl real solution to you dude, is to make your system faster by playing around, hardware an software wise, by the bios and windows. A straight up solution is like I said, a custom monitor driver specificly for your monitor and the resolution you use(because windows does'nt understand min refresh on the other direction, I forgot which, the one you don't normally touch by hand, so you can't get all res's avalible and working most of the time like this). (You can however get the just of it working with high refresh rates) It is very likely timing and speed related though. in one way or another, I'm sure you know what your windows should be like, and etc, so it must be related to the system you're using now. You must be slacking to much without adjusting for it speed wise on the bus. I dn... Edit: O, the conenction you referred to... This is not likely a hughe issue but it does help alot to have the real deal I'm sure. However psu's in general can have a pretty big inpact on performance, both visual and by feal.
