klrgreenis Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 I also recommend the evercool. Lowered my temps, and it is quieter.
bp1019 Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 I put AS5 on the chipset and switched cases and no temps are hitting 50C now. Thnx for all the advice guys, I really appreciate it.
jimmil43 Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Ok so now I have a VC-RE what do I use to replace the padding on the old HS? It looks like it supports some of the weight of the HS. Will the padding come off the old heat sink?
cesium Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 I was under the impression that one can simply take it off hte old HS with a razor blade or something to peel it off
XenoS Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 I left the padding alone, on the stock heatsink.
sleepingAwake Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I'd just like to throw in my own 2 cents on this one. I have a SLI-DR board and the chipset usually idles around 48C and hits 59C under load. This is after I replaced the stock cooler with a Vantec cooler CCB-A1C. My temps post mod were about 3C higher. Too me changing the cooler was not worth it. The stock cooler wasn't loud and the difference is neglible. I'd love too know how anyone else is getting lower temps than me. Hanging a fan with zip ties is not acceptable. bp1019 Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I left the padding alone, on the stock heatsink. Me too, just removed the waxy thermal crap and slapped on some AS5. Dropped at least 5-6C under load.

Critter Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Vantec cooler CCB-A1C I'll tell you how people are getting better temps. They have a better hsf. The one you use isn't the one people are getting good results with. Go get yourself an Evercool VC-RE with some AS5 and you'll answer the question for yourself. Fits without modding. Or if you want to dremel a bit Vantec has other hsf that do a better job. Good luck.
sleepingAwake Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Reading through some other posts on these forums people had recommended the cooler I used. Also please note that some people seem to have chipsets that are cooler than mine right out of the box. I'm comparing similar setups too. If there is a better hsf cooler tell me. I'm not afraid of grinding, welding, epoxying whatever I have to do get this chipset under control. Then I'll throw a little more voltage at it.
