jtp137 Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Going to upgrade to SLi when M2 socket comes out and 939 drops in price but need a power supply now what would you get they are roughly the same price at Newegg ocz 600w pc power and cooling 510w would it be better to get the one with dual 12v rails for the future
Smoken Joe Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 If you get the PCP&C get the ASL version if you want future compatability as it had the newest pin format. I am not convinced you need more than the OCZ PS 520. One solid 12 volt rail is enough. Dual rails format is to keep the slacker makers in line it is cheaper to make two adequate rails than one good one. Rember that everyojne is trying to move to smaller die lower powerconsomption CPU's GPU's etc.
red930 Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 If you can afford to drop the cash on one of those by all means go for it, I am very happy with my ASL. However I think Joe's right in saying you could easily get by with the OCZ 520.

red930 Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 what about the 12v power consumption on new video cards like the nvidia GX i think it is called wonder how much power it will suck up I wouldn't worry about it, I basically had the same system in my sig with dual 7800gtx cards (256mb) running on an antec 550 watt with no problem, so any of those (including the ones you stated as well as the OCZ powerstream 520) should be more than adequate.
