fariss Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 After a somewhat difficult build (still ongoing) I find I'm unable to get Windows XP Pro to recognize my WD HDD SATA 320 GB drive. Bios recognizes it but not the OS. The Raptor (boot drive) & the IDE HDD are OK. Any ideas?
moforila Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 If the bios can see the drive but windows cant, it could be a driver problem. google your disk for drivers and get knoppix or any other *nix you want see if you cant see it from there. fariss Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 I don't believe there are any drivers other than the Windows versions. Also the drive is listed as working properly in Device Manager. WD lists drivers for SATA controller cards. Shouldn't the nVidia drivers be sufficient? I've tried the 320 GB HDD in different SATA mobo connectors with the same reult. If it shows here and NOT in my computer, then it just needs formatted. You can right click on it in the disk manager and format it from within windows. fariss Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Thanks everyone. It was simply a bad cable. After the drive cage was inserted in the case the cable would loosen. After I replaced the cable things went great. Thanks again.
