Windows 64 Raid Install Problems

Recommended Posts

Tried to install Windows on my new system last night and windows 64 is looking for a file nvrdx64.sys. This happen just after the push f6 to install drivers. Tried to google search and search this site with little luck. I had trouble finding the file to dowload all the links I found looked broken. Is This Raid driver? Any suggestion from here guys. Also window 64 came in a moive type case should it have had a plastic type wrapper I needed to take of of it?

Thanks

As an x64 user, this site/forum will be your new best friend: http://www.planetamd64.com/

Tons of info there. As for your driver problem, download this driver package first: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1068

Extract it and put the RAID driver files from the IDE directory onto a floppy. These will allow you to install the OS. I think with this package, you still get an error during setup that says Windows cannot find the 2 CAT files but you can safely choose to skip over these without causing problems.

Once you have your OS installed, Download the 6.66 package from the Nvidia website and install those, less the audio drivers.

Just went back to dfi site redone the raid driver. I done this a week ago, to get ready for this. Now the raid driver has the right files. during install it also ask for nvraid.cat and nvata.cat. I skipped these with no problems so far.

'century child' are the files at 3dguru not the same as the ones at planet64? I know the ones at planet64 are an older set but I have not heard having to skip anything when installing them. Any clarification man?

I installed Windows XP Professional x64 Edition the other day, and have since reverted back to Windows XP Professional. For some reason, after installing all my programs, the 2nd core on my X2 4400+ stays around 20% cpu load. My benchmark scores plummet as a result. I would advise you to look at your Task Manager after every time you install a program or device driver.

With regards,

Torrey

Hey guys :)

Dunno if I should have started another thread for this.....

Have setup in my sig, and just installed x64. Anybody have poor filesystem performance?

I extracted the nvraid.cat & nvata.cat from i think the 6.53 nforce driver package and used newest nvraid floppy drivers from the DFI site along with the nvraid & nvata files from 6.53.

XP Pro 32bit Sandra file system benhmark gives me 95Mb+ but x64 Edition Sandra i get 60+. Atto seems to report the same drop in performance as well.

HD Tach however seems to report the same. Strange

Update: Seems to be writing to the drive is the performance hit. PC Mark 05 HDD test under x64 reports 73Mb whilst under x32 PC Mark 05 HDD test reports 108Mb.

Any ideas?

UPDATE: Fixed by having SATA drives on NV Sata ports 1 & 3, and not 1 &2 as they were.

Hiya RGone. I haven't seen the 6.56's at planet64 so I don't really know if they are the same or not. I believe they still ask for .cat files during install which are missing and you have to skip over them. The 6.66's don't ask for missing files but the RAID drivers are broken. After the Windows install routine finishes, you will get constant reboots and/or blue screens if istalled during Windows x64 install.

The Raid drivers from package 6.66 are not broken. All nForce driver packages 6.66 and higher have a new structure. It is not easy to install them, because the MS setup routine does not trust the nVSataRaid drivers and installs the wrong MS driver during GUIMODE section of the installation.

Try to update the SataRaid drivers after the installation or look into nLite Forum.

In addition you need a Raid Bios v. 4.84 to install the 6.66 drivers.
