on thursday i opened my laptop and replaced the thermal paste in less than an hour since it was overheating
-
do it yourself, lesson learnt

I did and that's what's limiting me at the moment. My fsb won't go above 255 but I'm thinking of getting an AM3+ motherboard in preparation for bulldozer and in the hope that I might get more out of my CPU.
i also want an AM3+ mobo

Depends what cooler he has right now, if it has less surface area on the heatsync and a lower cfm fan then yes you should expect better cooling.
he is using the athlon stock
-
i reckon the corsair will be quieter, just becuase i have the TX650 and it is freakin silent
-
have you tried local stores?
-
i have the spinpoint F3 1tb and it sometimes becomes a bit sluggish but most of the time its fast
-
I would enjoy a stock LCS but again, it doesn't seem reasonable given the extra price associated and the fact that warranty claims would go through the roof.
On an unrelated note, the trolling in the comments section of that website made my head explode
exactly

About the same, why is that cheaper?
no its $10 more than the 6790, i read in a Australian mag that the 6790 kills the 550TI in BFBC2 and other games.

Hey,I still like browsing these old threads, reminds me of my old athlon 1800, and when you HAD to use fsb to oc.
you still have to on the non-black edition CPU's right?
-
A friend of mine can reach 5.7GHz on a Sandy 2600k on air cooling . Its stability and degradation due to voltage that you have to look out for .
are you serious?
-
will the temp of the CPU drop? i will you AS5 if i choose to put my CPU cooler on my Bros PC.
-
your already at 4.1GHz with the 955 which is good, you dont have to overclock any further...or do you?
-
i'm trying to get it to 4GHz when the gigabyte 990FX motherboards come out, i once got it to 3.8GHz but i thought the mobo would blow since its old
-
i highly doubt they'll put a LCS as a stock
1) price
2) warranty
-
my phenom II 955 is already 3.2GHz

Hi
will my Phenom II 955 BE stock heatsink work on my brothers AMD athlon II X2 260?
Thank you
-
if its under 60*C your safe (under load)
are you using a stock heatsink? if so those temps are decent. with a after market it will drop considerably

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065 cheap and very effective
or the cooler master Hyper TX3 keeps it cool and its small

DIGI+ VRM = Digital Voltage regulator module which provides better overclocking, and lasts longer
the VRM spread spectrum option, asus claims it enhances system stability
-
im pretty sure you dont have to touch the settings of the VRM, you got the new ASUS mobo (VRM under large heatsink near cpu)
-
so under AI tweaker in my mobo i found this DIgi + VRM thign im not sure what it does or how to use it. can someone tell me how and if it will help me get better overclocks?
im pretty sure Digi+VRM is by asus. the VRM is the Voltage regulator module, it supplies the CPU with the right voltage. good overclocking motherboards have solid capacitors and a high power phrase eg. 8+2 like the UD7 or UD5 or UD3 ect. the VRM should be left of the CPU socket (bunch of capacitors lined up, i have and AMD mobo)
thats just a little definition from my prospective.

Thing in the back of his hand?0:38 maybe? It should be finalized by now though right?
thanks will check it out
-
maybe overheating of the cpu or gpu?
