my stepfather has a : pentium 166, the panel are not fitting anymore in the case frame. (really hard to fit screws can go away any time). its beige with some mising paint. missings leds. mouse no-name with 2 buttons . keyboard is yellow because its too aged.

I've got an aluminum case wih a manufacturer job window, i change the front bezel for an aluminum one front another case (fitting perfectly). i change the leds to blue. round silver cable. acrylic cpu duct.

ya or a plate for a lunch in front of the computer!

you can also put a deshumidifier (sorry not sure about the word) there are some that works great into the computer.

did you tried to plug something else on that ide controller/cable (maybe its the controller, or the cable).

there are also stuff made (some kind of foam) that you put in your case to stop noise. there is also the priramid fan silencer. if you want to change the fan you should use Panaflo fans they are very quiet.
