ir_cow Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Its kinda my mistake for not realizing the part number didn't match when ordering. But EK briefly made a 1080TI FE only block and than realized they could sell Titan Xp blocks and with a little extra milling the whole pascal series under one block. Well I somehow had the bad luck of finding the one place that still sells the old block. Just my luck... I got a hacksaw and I just have to cut the front acrylic off so the DVI ports fit than it the same as the new blocks. I'll post some pictures once I start cutting into it. Old Block (I bought)
AkakmanH Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 I think I would have contacted EKWB before doing any cutting. They are pretty good at customer support and might have done a swap.
Braegnok Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 If your running more than one card, and plan on using both those blocks,.. your going to need more than a hacksaw. Measure from the end of card port side, to center of inlet/outlet of blocks,.. they are not even close.

I was thinking that too but it looks like I got the wrong picture of the new block. https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-fc-geforce-gtx-fe-nickel. I'm gonna update with pictures of my handy work in a second. did a leak test for 8 hours and it seems fine. Also the rest of the cards I got are FE so I could just buy the same block and not have to cut them. Edit:
Braegnok Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Nice job on the notch. I was worried about stacking multi cards, and not having the inlet/outlet line up,.. with single card your going to be fine. I have three NIB FE Phanteks Glacier Series blocks, I'm thinking about selling if your interested. I bought them last month to add third card and chiller,.. but still haven't been able to buy third FE card, newegg seems to not be restocking 1080Ti cards,.. been out of stock or they are sold be others not excepting bitcoin for crazy high price. ir_cow Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Wow, newegg is really out of stock now... I only went with 1 card so far because I need a bigger rad. I got a second pump already, now to wait until BTC payday and buy another waterblock and a 420 rad. I'm not a huge fan of EK products but they seem to always be in stock. I wanted to get the Heatkiller 4, but I would have to order 3 different places to get the block, backplate and terminal connector. All the shipping would add up. Plus EK shipping is free on PreformancePCs website.

ir_cow Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 I'm sitting at 44c after 24hours of folding @ 2Ghz. Better than I expected for 12billion transistors.

Notice how we can so easily quote "12 billion transistors" without even blinking? Amazes me when I realize the changes in CPU and GPU architecture. Seems it was just yesterday when I bought an Altair 800 kit. It did not do much but was fun to program and do simple programs. ir_cow Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 Kinda mad at EK right now. I thought my system had gavnation corrosion because a little bit of nickel came off my MB block and than the 1080ti block started to turn brown around the seams. So I took it apart today before it got worse. Ended up being machine oil reside was all over the rubber seal so the exposed side (inside the block) had a that brown goop look to it. Anyways the MB block just happened to peal after about a year. The stupid machine oil left a yellow film across all the blocks. Its not worth taking it apart... it Someone forget to wash the block fully after milling. Since my whole system is Nickel and Brass gavnation corrosion was really unlikely. I'm leak testing it again, but I think I got mostly all of it out of the 1080ti block.
Waco Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 It wouldn't exactly be unheard of for EK to ship shoddy blocks. Watch for pitting in the Nickel as it ages.
