what is the difference between these 2? does the qx have a unlocked multiplier?

+1 , also I think the FSB is higher instead of 800 it's 1066. It's hard to remember so far back I had a Q6600 and i don't remember a normal Q6700 ever coming out.

i checked that out but it doesnt say anything about a unlocked multiplier on the qx6700. everything is the same except the wattage and max temp.

The QX6700 only came in B3 stepping ( not so good for OverClocking ) so if the Q6700 is a G0 then the Q6700 would be my choice due to all but guaranteed 3.6 - 3.8ghz OverClock potential provided you have a good enough board and cooler.
4 out of 6 weeks of my OTR training down then I get my own, brand new 2013 Freightliner Cascadia
