Waco Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 If that's real that's one MASSIVE chip. It's going to cost a fortune.
MINDSCI Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 If that's real that's one MASSIVE chip. It's going to cost a fortune. It is based on the new 55nm architecture, so it may even be a tad smaller than the gargantuan GTX 280 chip! It might run cooler too. Waco Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I doubt it'll be smaller. The GTX280 was 576 mm^2 and it has half as many processing units. Going from 65 nm to 55 nm doesn't save you that much.

Going from 65 nm to 55 nm doesn't save you that much. It looks as though the GTX 350 will be at least 50% faster than the GTX 280- Finally, a 4870 x 2 Slayer? A new GTX 280+ based on a 55nm chip is also coming out... So it will be smaller than the current one and probably use less Watts, so it will be easier to SLI. Compxpert Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 It probably won't be cheaper. Knowing the recent trends of nvidia it will be cooler, although probably not by much, and probably larger.

Cheaper isn't in the Nvidia dictionary (unless they start getting their butts whooped) unfortunately I don't see any way that ATI will be able to maintain the crown (if the 350gtx is indeed as strong as it says it is.) not t mention the 280+ might equal the 4870X2 itself. We may be back into a green generation of video cards. I wonder if the old gen 280's will come down in price alot or if they will lower them like 20 dollars cheaper than the 280+

IVIYTH0S Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Die shrinks don't make things faster. ya but they may clock it up a bit like they did the 9800gtx+ (not to mention the likely growth of overclocking headroom due to temperature dropping)

The prices have been creeping south for a couple of weeks now, and the drops - under $400 now- are getting more aggressive. So I hope the 350 is just around the corner. With its double the SP at 480 I would be willing to shell out around 7 bills for it.

(or two depending if there is anything to match the 350 for a while) but I'd never spend more than 500 on one piece of hardware
