  1. Agree with all the other posts, credit card payments may be easy for the buyer, but they cost the seller anywhere between 3-5% based on the sale value. And its also against paypal rules to charge extra if they're paying with a credit card as they're trying to protect themselves and keep their profits up.
  2. Well windows got so slow and jerky I went ahead and reformated on my existing hard drive and its working amazing now.....the opty just didn't like the old windows copy. And I just get to do it again this weekend when I get my new hdd.
  3. actually what I'm currently using is AS ceramique but it is at least 3 years old, so i figure its time for a replacement tube. buy the way....I love this chip, even with a hard drive thats acting up its much much faster, thanks for a great transaction.
  4. I put a small dot of Arctic Silver on the center of the chip then spread it out to a thin layer with a credit card. Checking it now its idling at 37-38C. I am ordering a new hard drive to put in the system, the hitachi's were lighting fast but are only causing problems now, i can only get 2 of the 4 to recognize in bios and one is making a clicking noise. I will add some new AS5 to the order and redo the thermal paste once I get it. The only other thing I can think of is that with out the IHS the tension on the retaining clips is much less....giving a looser fit on the chip. I'm going to have to look at the retaining device on my xp-90c to see if I can tighten that up, or I'll need to shim the corners of the chip to give a tighter fit.
  5. Thanks for the responses guys, I'm going to look at how I have things powered tonight when I get out of class. I did not do a clean install and I've been wondering if it was that or the HDD giving me a problem. These Hitachi's are fast as heck but are giving me headaches recently. I've been wondering about installing x64 and this may be the right time to do it. I was able to run dual prime95 last night and it ran for 8.5 hours with temps never breaking 49C at stock volts and speeds, so It shouldn't be the chip.
  6. Ok, I think this is a windows issue, but not sure as it may be a driver I've forgotten to reinstall. I upgraded from my old 3200 to an Opty 170 I bought off the forums here. Did the entire walkthrough of swapping chips, reflashed the bios with Tony's 7/04-2bta, 10 minute cmos clear, and the chip is working great, but it has caused some other issues. Before starting to OC this chip, I'm having some hard drive issues. The hitachi is set as the boot drive, and its going extremely slow all the sudden. It take about twice as long to boot up now as compared to before the chip swap. I have Beyond TV installed as my TV tuner program and it will take about 5 minutes sometimes to get through the startup of that where before thw chip swap it took about 1 minute. The hard drive transfer speed is testing about 1/3 of what it was before the swap, and my old 160gb IDE drive is twice as fast as this hitachi. And the Hitachi is plugged into the nforce Sata II ports on the board, not the Sil ones. The other issue I'm having now is that sometimes whatever windows I have open will suddenly become "ugly" or revert back to the windows 95 styling with sharp, gray corners and lose all the pretty formatting that xp has, then after a little bit they'll automatically revert back to the standard xp mode. When I cleared CMOS, did I forget some driver that needs to be reinstalled for the sata II or HDD? I have installed both dual core fixes from the AMD site, is there a windows Dual core fix I need as well? This is my first dual core rig and I'm still learning here. Any help is appreciated.
  7. Bump for a good trader, bought his opty 170, arrived as said
  8. dl powerstrip and its working great, thanks playah
  9. Here's my problem....I'm using the computer in the sig and trying to hook up my Olevia (Syntax) LT37HVS HD LCD tv. When I hook up the tv to the card through a DVI to VGA adapter and a 10 foot VGA cable, it will detect the tv and allow me to set up dualview, clone or whatever I want, but I can't adjust anything. The problem is that I need to be able to create a custom timing as the resolution of the tv is 1366x768, and the nvidia control panel won't accept a custom timing, so the image on my tv is always cut off. I'm using the newest nvidia drivers (93.71) and Nvidia control panel version 1.2. Has anybody seen anything like this or have any ideas as to how to fix this issue.
  10. I might be interested in the RAM if you decide to break it up. PM me a price and I'll let you know if I can afford it.
  11. Lets see here, anything by Tom Clancy...the whole Jack Ryan/John Clark series is amazing, Dan Brown-Angles and Demons, DaVinci Code, Digital Fortress, Deception Point are all excellent reads Robert Ludlum-Like some of his earliest and his latest, especially like the Covert One series that is now be continued after his death Douglas Preston and Lincoln Childs-Amazing pair of authors, write good books solo, but together are amazing, some of the most unique plots I've ever read. Brimstone, Relic, Still Life with Crows, and all the others are great. Other favorite authors....Dale Brown, Ken Follett, and David Baldacci
  12. the biggest problem I know of with acrylic cases is keeping the things clean is pretty much impossible, and you will need to put some serious time into wire management as if you don't it looks like hell.
  13. You still need to have some sort of fans in your system, as there are other sources of heat, such as hdd's, optical drives, and psu's. You can get blocks for the gpu and the chipset, however the only reason to cool the chipset is to get rid of the fan noise. General opinion is that chipset wc blocks just add heat and restriction to the system, and for 8 or 9 bucks you can get a better heatsink/fan for the chipset from evercool. WC the video card is very common, as modern cards can get very hot, especially if they are volt modded.
