Hippey Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Okay I just had a power surge and now my computer won't boot anymore I turn it on, I get power for 0.2seconds, enough for my LED fans to turn blue and then it dies I tested the PS with a multimeter and I have all +12V, 5V and 3.3V When the PS was still plugged into the mobo, I had that one orange light on meaning it's okay. Well okay in regards to whatever that's monitoring. Then when I try to turn it on, I get the 4 red LED's for a second and then nothing. So.. is it still possible it could be the PSU or is the mobo fried? Can anything be done? And is this covered by the DFI warranty? StephenC Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Try clearing cmos. Try with one stick in dimm slot 2 Try both sticks one at a time. Try barebones approach as well. Only ram and video card attached to mobo and psu.
Hippey Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 I tried clearing CMOS and JP1 as well ... also the only thing I have plugged in now is the 24 pin and the 4 pin but the same thing still happens. Fans make a little jerk motion and nothing. 4 LED's for a quick second, nothing
StephenC Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Do you have access to another PSU? Have you tried removing from case? Diconnecting power switch from case, and using the power button on motherboard?
Hippey Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Another PSU I have is a 350W 20pin so that probably wouldn't even work. I tried turning the computer on with the switch on the mobo but I didn't disconnect the main switch.
StephenC Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Ok try taking anything and everything out of the mix not needed to post. Remove your motherboard from the case. Place motherboard on a flat non-conductive surface Connect only video card, one stick of ram, and psu (mouse and keyboard) See if it will powerup. Hippey Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 No nothing I checked the PSU after hooking it up to the motherboard and all the pins report the voltage they should be. Does that mean mobo fried?
unreal Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Without scaring you, sounds like my problem, look what happened here Check your CPU!
StephenC Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Could very well be. As well PSU is still a suspect, and your other components as well. May want to invest in a ups. Sorry bout your loss.
Hippey Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Well it's not the CPU at least For those that care, I tried the approach of just cpu, one stick of ram and vid card and it didn't work.. but just before I was about to package the mobo and ship it to where I bought it from I decided to see if it was the vid card... so I booted with just CPU and ram and voila. it worked. Well as much as it can without vid card but at least it ran and the chipset fan was spinning which it never did before cause power didn't last for more then 0.1 seconds. So.. it's the vid card.. dunno how the surge went past the PSU and past the motherboard to fry the vid card.. I guess it was the "weakest link" anyway.. I guess I'm glad it's not he mobo, either way I'm SOL until a new one arrives, and I ripped out the mobo for nothing but that's what it was
StephenC Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Glad to hear it was not the cpu or motherboard......sorry bout the video card. I would get a ups.
