Amd Athlon 3000+ Venice overclocking Help

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Ever and I'm having some trouble overclocking with the setup below. I do understand the basic of how things work when overclocking, but i need help on overclocking a bit heavier.

I've seen guys with the same processor, motherboard, memory and those guys could hit 2.7GHz, man i would be glad with atleast 2.5GHz.

So if someone can help, I would really appreciate it.

Its not possible to expalain OCing in 2 or 3 steps.

You will have to take some time and understand the basics of OCing.

Please dont mind but search google for some articles on overclocking to get the fundas clear.

Also DFI has the most complicated BIOS , a bit difficult for beginners to understand how to Overclock.

There are a lot of parameters involved.

The Genie Bios will allow you these option to be played with.

HTT/LDT Speed:- Main Default 200 increasing this increases the CPU speed.

Also remember you DDR Ram frequecy also increase with increase in LDT Speed.

Default Ram Speed is 200x2 is 400Mhz for DDR400 Ram

CPU Multiplier:- 9 for Venice 3000+

HTT Speed x CPU multiplier = ur CPU speed

for 3000+ Venice

200 x 9 = 1800

so as you increase this your CPU speed increase.

Increase this in 5Mhz range.

for eg you increased it to 210 then your CPU will run at 210x9 = 1890Mhz

and your ram will run at 210 x 2 = 420 Mhz instead of 400Mhz.

CPU Vcore:- Default 1.4 for Venice

You have to increase this when you feel your CPU doesnt boot with a particular HTT Speed.

You currently keep this Vcore at 1.4 and inc your HTT but later at a point for eg. when

you have reached 220 or 230 Mhz and you find that your pc is not able to load windows

then this is the time to realize that Vcore is not suppicient for the proccesor to run it at that

speed so increase it by 0.025V until you find that you CPU loads windows.

VDimm:- Default 2.7,2.8 depends

required to increase when DDR Speed is increased.

Varies a lot with different ram chips.

TCCD overclock a lot with 2.8,2.9 V to reach 300 or more

BH-5 require 3.2-3.5 to reach 270 at tight ram timings.

Ram Timings:- plays a vital role in memory bandwidth

the main ram timings are.

- CAS latency

- RAS to CAS delay

- Active to Precharge delay (shown as Min RAS# active time(Tras)

- RAS precharge delay (shown as Row precharge Time)

- Command Rate shud be 1T for better perfomrmance.

Do a search on how these ram timings affect the memory bandwidth.

Ram Dividers:- These are to lower the ram speed if ram is affecting the CPU

overclock.

With Ram dividers you can run your Ram at a lower speed than CPU.

DFI has plenty of settings.

Well i tried my best to explain you.

This can go in details but will take a lot of time explaining you each term.

Also Read these reviews the will help you understand you DFI better.

These articles will help you get a complete idea of the various options on your

DFI motherboard.

Hope this helped.

thanks for the info. I took a few days to look at this info, and found that it is not that complicated once you know what you are doing.

I was able to take it up to 2.8Ghz.

Once again thanks for the help

sli-d + venice 3000+ = a monster for a small price <3

I agree definately. I got the 3000+ venice cause they said that it stays cooler and overclocks better than some 3200+'s and 3500+'s, and it's true.
