nVidia says you dont need a sli bridge anymore

Recommended Posts

This is good news for all you modders who have turned your NF4 Ultra D/DRs into SLI D/DRs. Take a look here

With a slight drop in fps, I think it would suit all those who don't want to have to buy SLi bridge but want to run SLi.

The review didn't mention any hardware requirement. The stated that they simply removed the SLI Bridge between tests.

"Simply install the ForceWare 77.72 drivers, and install the two video cards as you would in a standard SLI setup, except sans the connector."

angry, it does require some thingy on the out-side (imo, thats worse)....

right?

its called 'We are scared of ATI's Crossfire which requires no bridge and only one card has to be a Crossfire card and on top of that there are no 'profiles' that are required'

When I first started reading that article, I heard a little school girl giggle...then realized it was me. When I got down to the actual benchmarks, I heard crying and again it was me. I need to go do some damn pushups or somethin.

Seriously though, interesting prospect there. Seems like as the article stated, it would increase the load on the CPU, resulting in an overall drop in performance.

Also, for Angry, have you had a chance to checkout any cross-fire boards? Any chance of DFI releasing a ver. based on that chipset? BTW Angry, I saw that your a steelheads fan. Are you a Bronco's fan as well?

ati outside dongle vs nvidia sli bridge...looks to me one and the same...

crossfire will let you mix up your cards but is that really a good idea???whats the point of havin an r520 next to a 9800 pro???

the no profiles..kudos to ati...hopefully nvidia will learn something from the competition on that one..

haven't seen a crossfire board other than pictures and as you all know, i dont waste time with leaked pictures, info, speculation etc. When I see a Crossfire board arrive at my door via FedEx then I will take some interest in it....these days I am swamped putting in 16+ hours days fixing rigs that customers send me, emails, telephone, etc...I barely have had any time to come to the forum.

btw...do you live in Boise? I like the Broncos, but I'm not a big football/basketball fan...I only like hockey (though since momma goes to Boise State, we get nearly-free tickets to the BSU football games which is cool to see in person, but sports on tv bores me to death unless it is college hockey)

there's too much speculation on exactly what is required for ATI Crossfire.

at first it was 'any two cards regardless of cores and they will load-balance'

then it was 'one card has to be a Crossfire card and have a dongle'

then it was 'one card has to be Crossfire, and the other has to be the same core/video memory'

then it was 'well now its Crossfire + matching gpu (non-crossfire) card, and it only works on ATI R200 chipsets'

then it was 'works on any chipsets'

so who knows what exactly is the truth? I don't and i don't mean to sound rude, but I just don't care because it is a board that isn't out in customer hands and we've got enough work to do with the boards that ARE in customer hands. (again, its that whole speculation thing...when the boards are released, they will be released and we can all enjoy them or hate them...until then...I don't bother to worry about them, the NF5, Intel SLI, etc)
