OC-ing woes- testing max CPU? venice 3000+

dont underclock the ram when testing, the CPU.

 

What do you mean by this? I thought to find max of CPU you should underclock the ram (I assume you meant putting it on a 1/2 divider like I did) so that the RAM does not hold back the CPU.

 

In any case, I really don't know what happened. I hit a brick wall at 258 for CPU, and decided to test max RAM. I reached 300FSB and called it good since that was way more than my CPU.

 

I've been priming now for 4 hours at:

x9 multiplier and 280HTT = 2520MHz. CPU volt is 1.4V (1.325 * 110%)

 

Memory at 2.5-3-3-6, and running 1-1.

 

I think I'm satisfied with 2500MHz, and will look to tighten timings after this if I can.

 

UPDATE: So I guess prime failed sometime this morning after 7 hours or so. It said : "hardware failure" as the reason it stopped. Is this due to temperature? Is there a usual suspect if prime fails after more than just a few hours?
