How can I best cool my PWM IC

Recommended Posts

On load I'm getting in excess of 64c when trying to increase my overclock. Could this cause a lock up whilst in game. All other basic tests are ok. Problem stops when I reduce the speed.

I'm looking for an easy to fit solution that looks good. Case model is below in sig

Thanks

watercooling (I use DangerDen TDX on my 4000 SanDiego + BH-5) is excellent for the cpu, the ambient airflow that you are used to from a heatsink such as the XP-90 etc is missing....this means that your PWMIC is going to get incredibly hot =(

I faced the same issue myself... (Coolermaster stacker even!)

here's what i did

take the top fan and turn it around so that it sucks air down into the case!

the take another 80mm fan (it can be a quiet fan) and use twisty-ties to 'hang' it from the top fan's housing.

another good idea on top of this is the get the CM cross-flow fan made specifically for the Stacker.

This is good thanks.

My thermochill 120.2 rad is sat at the top of the case with the blow holes taking the air out. This is sucking the air through the rad & then out. So I have 2 x 120mm at the top & then the other lower 2 x 120mm fans sucking in. Moving that around won't happen till I need a water change.

I've looked at the CM cross flow & think this may help too. It's not a bad price at £22

Think my 1st setp will be to fit a fan directy above the area & see what happens. The added bonus is that I will get abit of active cooling on my RAM. I may even get another 120mm fan & stick it there.

I can hear my casae from the top of my street, so one more fan ain't going to make too much diff.

you should definitely turn the fans on your radiator around so they suck air in from the outside...pulling air through your fans from the inside only guarantees hot air coming off the PWMIC/memory/etc is what is pushed through the rad =(

ok will do.

Could you show me a picture of how you fitted the additional fan. I ask becasue the top part of my case has been modified to fit the rad.

Fancied fitting an 120mm fan, over the PWMIC & ram, but I think that's way to big. Will opt for a UV 80mm I think.

hrmm...id have to take the side of this beast off lol...ill see if i can get a pic of it. A 120mm fan over that area would do well...i usually use the twisty-ties to secure a 'hanging' fan from either the tubing from the watercooling, or one of the fans, or the psu wires etc...something that is in that area that can support a fan ;)

I hanged a 80mm fan on top of the memory. Apparently the PWMIC also benefit from that 80mm fan. Idle temperature is ~40c, temperature under prime is ~45c under room temperature of 30c. I am using a lightly modded Lian Li PC-7+ with 11 blower fans, including a top and PCI exhaust blowers.

try the noiseblocker 120mm fans - uber quiet yet powerful too....

i have the same problem - installed a third fan onto the bottom of my rad (which is mounted @ the top of my case) and this helped aleviate too much heat circulating round the PWMIC and memory area- I still hit around 60Degrees PWMIC temp though......
