David Stewart Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Yep, All I've got to show for it are two souveneirs...the stint and a vial of little stone fragments. LOL;) Thanks for all the well-wishes everyone. I am now feeling like a new man and back to 100%. I'm interested in my post-op visit to the doctor next week so I can get the analysis results so I can find out what caused it. Maybe time for a diet change. omga14 Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 at the tender age of 24 my apendix blew up on me. yup thats right BLEW UP! first hospital had me sitting around even though i was then next patient to be examined. you see the nurse was busy shreading paper and filing papers even though i was doubled over in pain and in danger of dying. after repeated attempts to get her attention i threw a chair in anger and my buddy walked me out. went to the store and buy some rolaids cause i though maybe it's just a real bad ulcer. well after seeing my pain my buddy forced me into the car and drove me to another hospital. a head nurse, head doctor and specialist all pressed on the offending area(cried like a girl and bent the gurney rails) i was rushed ro ER and was cut open. almost died cause of the acids flowing around my internals. i feel your pain man. David Stewart Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Ouch! I feel like a wimp now, lol. Having a big kidney stone sucks, but I am thankful that it was nothing like a ruptured apendix! I know what you mean by waiting in the ER. You have to walk in carrying one of your limbs in your hand or be bleeding to death to get any quick attention. Glad to hear that you finally got some medical treatment and everything turned out ok. Did they say what caused your rupture? David Stewart Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 One last rant. I got my copy of the surgery bill today, and it was even more than I expected of course. I am defintely in the wrong profession. The surgery bill ended up being $9240.00! I looked at the breakdown of the bill and here are a few of the charges: Surgeon's Charge = $4252.00 The stent (just a rubber tube, basically) = $461.50 Stent Placement = $416.38 Basket used to put stones in = $784.50 Blanket to cover me up: $39.00 Anaesthesia: $987.00 Having Insurance = Priceless, LOL. About the most bang for the buck I seemed to have gotten was the morphine, which was only like $17.50...well worth that price I'm sure. Total damages thus far: $ 780.00 $1650.00 $9240.00 Total: $11670.00 DS
