First Oc And Build: Help Me

This is the setup I just got:

Gigabyte P35-DS3L

eVGA 8800GTS(g92)

C2D e8400

Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800mhz 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2

AC Freezer 7 Pro

I was wondering if the temp readouts I am getting are accurate or not. It says 27C when Im in my bios, but 49c when idling in vista(via coretemp).

In the early going I have pushed it to 425x9 for 3.825ghz, vcore showing 1.216 in cpu-z. its idle/load is 42/57C with realtemp. i have run prime95 for about 3 hours and yet to get errors with this.

also have just overclocked my GPU to 720 core, 1782 shader, and 1036 memory. ran crysis 1280x1024 high setting very well and got the gpu up to 65C. what do you use to stress test your GPU overclocks? is it just 3Dmark06? running 3Dmark right now will update.

i now have it running at 1.232vcore and I get 41/58C idle/load(51/67C with CoreTemp). ran 12+ hours of p95 with no errors. still doing 3.825ghz 425x9 with 4-4-4-12 timings. i am looking to go a bit higher with the overclock, temps permitting. do these temperatures look too high? I may lap the CPU heatsink and get a new application of thermal paste on there too. also, is there a guide somewhere on how i can test memory timings and what are good ones to go through. i dont really know what im doing i just go between 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-15. any help would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't go any higher then those temps, 67C is pushing it. Then again, i can't seem to get a stable OC that will produce more temp then like 50ish... go canada?

Oh and btw, nice OC :)

CoreTemp reports 10c higher than RealTemp because of the differing Tjmax values used on the two programs for the E8400

RealTemp is the one I personally believe to be correct.

trace_87 : Are you running two instances of p95 to test for stability? (i.e. 100% in both cores). If you are then you have a good clock for that voltage and I imagine it may push 4GHz relatively easily.

As for the memory, it would be a good idea to test it separately by running the CPU on a lower multiplier (i.e not overclocking the CPU)

You should be able to get a good idea how far it will go at 4-4-4-12 timings then.

The Freezer 7 Pro is a relatively decent cooler, but not the best for temperatures.

If you want to push things further then you may want to consider something else.

Actually, the newer versions of P95 will do this for you. I recently updated and it starts 4 clients for me all in one window. Quite nice :)
