solved the problem yourself before i could even reply, yeah i need to re-read what i wrote and make it less confusing. after helping someone mod their 800xt i realized i was skipping around alot and made it werid, since the 7200 is a R5xx but the 7100 R4xxx is supported too.

i should state with the makeshift patch it will give you a error i think. i should get my 1950 out and patch it again reading from the guide.

So is the 4850 equivalent to one of the new FirePro cards?! I couldn't find any information saying what the FirePro cards' cores are, nor the equivalent cards for 4850...

nope those "pro" cards are still R6xx which is HD 3000 series (i think, all these Rxxx get to me), i haven't had much luck using makeshift patch with my 4850, it runs all slow but idea counts you can use newer cards to act like older ones.

but really the pro cards are just V5600 and v3600 but with display ports :) i still waiting for the real R7xx to come, i thought i was august...

edit: ha what you know R600 is HD 2000 series and R66x-67x is HD 3000 series. i thought i read it said R660gl but im not 100% sure.

so... RV770 is 4850/4870, and R700 is dual-GPU RV770 (4870X2, maybe 4850X2)... so there are FireGL cards due out that are RV770 (single GPU)? or R700 (dual GPU)?

FirePro V3700: RV710

FirePro V5700: RV730

FireGL 2008 Series: 4870 (RV770) / R700 (hmm which is it? lol)

yeah i hope that they come out soon, iv seen the HD 3000 series play nice with the V7700 mod but the 4000 not so much. for dua-gpu firegls i have no clue, do they exist? for the longest time i think firegl didnt support crossfire, i hope that changes or did change.

i got bored and made the most up to date list i know of using VEN Ids.

also heres a quick chart for your counter-part card:

latest supported makeshift patch is 8.453.1 with these cards supported

FireGL V3100 RV370 = x300/550/1050

FireGL V3200 RV380 = x600

FireGL V3300 RV515 = x1300 Series

FireGL V3350 RV515 = x1550 Series

FireGL V3400 RV530 = X1300 Series

FireGL V3600 RV630 = HD 2400 LE

FireGL V5000 RV410 =X700 series

FireGL V5100 R423 = X800 Series

FireGL V5200 RV530 = X1600 Series

FireGL V5600 RV630 = HD 2600 Pro

FireGL V7100 R423 = X800 Series

FireGL V7200 R520 = X1800 Series

FireGL V7300 R520 = X1800 Series

FireGL V7350 R520 = X1800 Series

FireGL V7600 R600 = HD 2900 GT

FireGL V7700 RV630 = HD 2600 XT

FireGL V8600 R600 = HD 2900 Pro

FireGL V8650 R600 = HD 2900 XT

FirePro V3700 Rxxx =

FirePro V5700 Rxxx =

FireGL V7700 RV630 = plays nice with 3000 series.

the drivers states in 8.4 that the v7700 is RV630GL but the Ati Ven Ids say RV670, who knows what Ati is really doing.

we wont know what the "Pros" are intill posted at ATi VENDOR ID you may be right i cant say what i saw for sure but it would be like a 4650?

4650 Pro and 4600 XT ? who knows lol...

I'm more interested in R700/RV770 FireGL cards as I'm going to be buying a 4850 soon anyway, and might get a 4870 or 4870X2 in the future... I have a unused XP64 license that would be cool to make use of

  • 3 weeks later...

Is there ever any chance to get this working on vista 64 bit?

I have the onboard graphics on my 780g, which is fine for my non gaming needs, but I really want to get realview working since it helps so much when drawing in solidworks. I was going to look at getting a cheap card if needed, but since its a hd3200 onboard, is it likly that it would be softmoddible?

I could put XP back on here for doing cad in, but I would rather not go back to it.

vista isn't going to supported anytime soon as in 2-3 years, you're better off getting a cheaper card if you can't bare to use windows 64x.

as for onboard video i couldn't tell you if it can or cannot be done. i would think yes, but check gpu-z to make sure it has a device id (than your golden). i think you would be the first and be sure to post a screenshot if you mange it :)

i did a quick google realview looks like a basic CAD program am i right? CAD takes power and power is not what onboard or a cheap card has, best look into what people are using before buying anything. edit: more googling and it seems realview is a CAD model viewer? that may still take some heavy power.

Realview is an option in solidworks (which is cad) where there are texture and light applied to the model when designing, vs having to render to see how things look. They only let you do it on quaddro and firegl cards because of some licensing thing with the technology, not that they actually need them, and even a crap card like an older quaddro can do a good job of it, its just the supported card list on vista has got shorter.

Untill you start to make massive models its not intensive at all, everything i have done has being ok even on the cruddy intel on my laptop, its just it looks flat and dull when modelling which makes tweeking the shapes of things that much harder till you render and see that it looks all wrong
